Seneca Valley grad named national honoree
Chris Helmsen, a 2022 Seneca Valley High School graduate, has been named a National Cyber Scholar by the National Cyber Scholarship Foundation for his performance in a challenging online cybersecurity training program.
Helmsen competed against thousands of U.S. high school students by solving real-world cybersecurity problems.
More than 45,000 students nationwide sought to qualify for a National Cyber Scholarship.
Helmsen is one of just 20 students in Pennsylvania who earned a $3,000 scholarship to attend the Cyber Foundation Academy, which is a multi-week online program.
At the end of the program, Helmsen will take an exam to earn an officially recognized cybersecurity technologies certification, which will render him eligible to compete for the title of National Cyber Scholar with Honors.
The National Cyber Scholarship Foundation recognizes high school students who have demonstrated exceptional cybersecurity prowess and wish to pursue a career in a cybersecurity.
“Chris has shown incredible growth over the past few years, and I’m excited to see where he goes from here,” said Dean Walker, Seneca Valley Senior High School gifted support teacher.
