Paul J. Starr, 87, of Butler, passed away Sunday morning, June 26, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1934, in Butler, he was a son of the late Paul M. and Mildred (Oster) Starr.

He was a heavy equipment and truck mechanic, having worked for Eckridge for more than 20 years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

He was a lifetime organic master gardener. He was active in the farmers’ markets, both of Butler and Slippery Rock. He was also a former member of the Pittsburgh Mushroom Club and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading and especially spending time with his family.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was aboard the USS Oglethorpe during the Korean War.

Surviving are two daughters, Debby (Terry) Baptiste of Hernando, Fla., and Paula (Dennis) Master of Boonsboro, Md.; six grandchildren, Ryan (Tina) Baptiste, Jason Baptiste, Caitlin (Chad) Keller, Gavin (Natalie) Master, Catherine Starr and David Starr Jr.; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Andrea C. (Bonyak) Starr, whom he married Nov. 29, 1957, and who passed away Nov. 6, 1998; his son, David A. Starr; his granddaughter, Alexis Starr; three brothers; and two sisters.

STARR — Friends of Paul J. Starr, who died Sunday, June 26, 2022, will be received from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St, Butler.

Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to the Arbor Day Foundation, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
