East Brady nurse wins highest award at Concordia
A licensed practical nurse at Concordia at Cabot Lund Care Center won her company’s top employee award.
Shennel Crissman of East Brady bested 31 finalists to win the inaugural Stephen W. Johnson Mission Award, which was named for the late Concordia Lutheran Ministries board chairman.
Johnson served as chairman for 19 years until his death in 2020.
“He was a visionary man of great faith and wisdom, who guided Concordia in keeping its mission the top priority, and the award will preserve his memory and promote the recognition of employees’ Christ-like hearts,” said a Concordia news release regarding the award.
Community members, patients, residents and colleagues submitted 177 nominations for 109 employees to be considered for the award.
A selection panel chose the 31 finalists.
Crissman was chosen as the winner for her attention to detail, focus on residents’ every need, providing excellent medical care, and going the extra mile for patients such as in cutting their hair, picking up and serving dinner to a couple celebrating their 70th anniversary, checking on her residents in their final hours and attending more than 90 funerals.
“Concordia has gone above and beyond for myself and family many times over my 19-year career and have proven their mission,” Crissman said. “As long as I’m willing and able, I will continue to go above and beyond to make my residents’ stay at Concordia a comfortable, enjoyable and memorable experience.”
Three employees were given honorable mentions. They are Armine Crowell, an occupational therapist at Concordia Village of Tampa; Wendy Moore, corporate director of skilled nursing at Concordia Lutheran Ministries; and Dottie Vogt, a unit clerk at Concordia of Cabot.
Concordia Lutheran Ministries has 3,100 employees in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida, 14 inpatient locations and eight home and community companies.
