UPDATE: Body recovered from Lake Arthur after water rescue search
WORTH TWP — The body of a 54-year-old man was found Friday evening in Lake Arthur after a water rescue search was conducted off the Lakeview Beach area at Moraine State Park’s North Shore.
According to park manager Dustin Drew, the man, a resident of Canada, had been wading in the water when he lost his footing and fell into a 16-foot dropoff.
“He was wading in the water to retrieve an object, he came to the edge and lost his footing,” he said. “Another individual tried to save him and went under, when a third person pulled (the second individual) out, but they were unable to recover the first victim.”
Park rangers were notified of the incident around 4:30 p.m., according to Drew.
Members of Unionville Volunteer Fire Department and Butler County Water Rescue Team 300 used sonar to search the water near the point where the individual had been last seen.
Divers were able to recover the body around 6 p.m.
Drew said the Butler County coroner was notified and was en route to the scene.
The second individual, who had attempted to rescue the victim, was transported by Portersville Muddy Creek EMS from the scene for evaluation.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is investigating, according to state police.
Also responding to the scene was Butler EMS, Portersville Muddy Creek EMS and Fire Department, and Unionville Fire Department.
