HARRISVILLE — Small towns across the nation put on parades and festivities for the Fourth of July, and Harrisville is no different.

Residents of Harrisville, Grove City, Slippery Rock, Marion and other counties crowded the parade route for what Ken Miller, pastor of Harrisville United Methodist Church, described as the largest event in Harrisville all year.

People were decked out in red, white and blue for the celebration, which included a parade at 11 a.m. followed by food trucks, carnival games, bouncy houses and merchandise stands in the community park throughout the day.

Fireworks were expected to conclude the celebration at dusk.

Tameika Griffin sat with her two children, 7-year-old Jasetin and 3-year-old Tenley, to watch the parade.

“They love seeing all the tractors and, of course, the candy,” Tameika said of her children, who have attended the parade for the last several years.

The annual Harrisville Antique Tractor and Equipment Show showcased the tractors that farmers rode during the parade.

Fred Humphrey, of Marion, stood by his Farmall International Harvester in the park and enjoyed a Philly cheesesteak from the food stands.

Army veteran Ron Gunniers also enjoyed Harrisville’s celebration efforts.

“I look forward to it every year,” Gunniers said.

Gunniers, a member of the Harrisville American Legion and resident of Slippery Rock, said he has enjoyed handing out small flags to children in the community the last three years he has attended the parade.

Young or old, there was something for everyone in Harrisville on the Fourth of July.
