Butler video will promote city’s assets
Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy got his steps in Wednesday, when he led a videographer around the city to film various points of interest.
Dandoy explained that CGI Digital of Rochester, N.Y., filmed several of the interesting, cultural, historical, recreational, retail and culinary locations in the city for a video that will promote Butler.
Once produced, the video will appear on the city’s website, where those who are planning to visit or relocate to Butler — or even those who have lived here all their lives — can view it.
“It’s more than a pet peeve of mine that people who live here don’t know what we have,” Dandoy said. “We have so much.”
Dandoy said Butler is a special and thriving city due to its parks; the Maridon Museum; Michelle Krill Memorial Field at Historic Pullman Park; a vibrant arts community that includes the Butler Art Center, Butler Little Theatre, Musical Theatre Guild of Butler and the Butler Symphony; the Butler Area Public Library; and a plethora of excellent shops and restaurants in addition to the city’s rich history.
“This is a way for us to remind people, at the very least, what we have here,” Dandoy said.
He said the video will not cost the city anything because it is part of a larger county project and because CGI Digital will sell advertising on the video to cover production costs.
The shoot started at the historical city building at the intersection of North and North Washington streets, which originally was the family home of local merchant George A. Troutman and his wife, Amelia Schaffner Troutman.
Dandoy and the videographer also filmed Cummings Candy & Coffee, Diamond Park, the Butler Farmers’ Market on South Chestnut Street, the various murals around town and many other locations.
Dandoy was filmed giving a “welcome to Butler” line or two. A professional voice-over artist will narrate the remainder of the video, he said.
Dandoy is excited to see the finished product.
“I think it’s going to showcase what a great place this town is,” he said.
Dandoy hopes the video will draw tourism dollars and those who are considering opening a business in an active city.
“It’ll be one more tool in our toolbox,” Dandoy said.
