County getting $2.1M to replace Neigh Wadsworth Bridge in Summit Twp.

Butler County is receiving $2.1 million in federal money to replace the Neigh Wadsworth Bridge on Geibel Road in Summit Township in 2025 at the earliest.

County commissioners Wednesday approved a reimbursement agreement to pay the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation with the federal money, which will come from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

The county’s engineering firm, Herbert, Rowland and Grubic Inc., will design the new bridge, and PennDOT will administer the bidding process and award a construction contract, said Leslie Osche, board of commissioners chairwoman. The county owns the bridge.

Osche said she and the other commissioners visited the bridge and discovered that it carries a lot of traffic even though it has only one lane. The bridge is between Heist Road and Route 422.

“We’re just thrilled it’s going to get done,” Osche said after the commissioners’ meeting.
