Petrolia man killed in Mercer crash

A Petrolia man died after he was ejected from his vehicle during a crash early Monday in Liberty Township, Mercer County, according to state police.

Matthew Bell, 28, was driving his Mazda Miata north on Slippery Rock Road around 1:46 a.m. with passenger Trenton Snow, 22, of Grove City, when the crash occurred.

According to a news release, Bell’s vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway, striking a mailbox, then a ditch.

“The vehicle continued north and began rotating clockwise,” the release said. “(The car) struck a tree, causing it to rotate counter-clockwise.”

Police said Bell and Snow were ejected from the vehicle. Both were transported to Grove City Medical Center, where Bell died as a result of injuries. Snow was transported for serious injuries. The report said Bell and Snow were not wearing seat belts.

Superior Ambulance Service, state police and Slippery Rock and Pine Township volunteer fire companies responded to the scene.
