The Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport has a new manager to replace Ike Kelly, who retired in December.

The Butler County Airport Authority announced Monday that Michael Biggs will begin his new job next month at the facility on Airport Road in Penn Township.

Biggs' most recent position was as the contracting officer’s technical assistant and project manager at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority in Washington, D.C.

That authority oversees Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Biggs managed and administered numerous maintenance contracts for the authority and oversaw a budget of about $2 million per month.

Officials at Butler County Airport Authority say Biggs will bring valuable knowledge to the airport due to his vast experience with facility and project management, a strong working relationship with the Federal Aviation Administration, and understanding of the FAA’s operations and funding processes.

“We are excited to welcome Michael to the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport,” said Chad Weaver, authority vice president. “Michael’s energy, enthusiasm and knowledge will be instrumental in continuing to move the airport forward and increase the airport’s economic contribution to Butler County.”

Mike Walsh, authority chairman, praised Weaver for his work in bringing Biggs to Butler.

“He located a national search firm, Aviation Search Group, to help the airport get a very qualified applicant,” Walsh said.

Airport officials said they also are grateful for the general assistance and support provided by the Butler County board of commissioners.

A news release said the commissioners’ financial contributions to both operational and capital improvements help ensure growth and development at the airport.

Kelly, the airport’s former manager, served in his position for six years and on the authority board for many years before accepting the manager’s job.

Many and varied upgrades and programs were added at the airport during Kelly’s tenure.
