BUTLER TWP — Preparation soon will begin on a new recreation area off Hansen Avenue.

Township commissioners voted Monday to begin site preparations for the 18-acre space, which the township has owned since 2020. The first priority for the space is to have concrete on the site crushed and removed, which township manager Tom Knights said could take a while because of the large amounts.

Knights said the project could cost between $200,000 and $500,000 to complete. The township has yet to decide how to develop the area once the preparations are finished, but previously discussed putting in a walking trail.
