The county Bureau of Elections on Wednesday will begin a public review of its vote tabulation process by recounting ballots cast in three precincts in the 2020 general election.

Expected to last about two weeks, the review begins at noon in a conference room in the Butler County Government Center.

The Middlesex Township South, Donegal Township and Butler City 4-1 precincts were randomly selected for the review at the July 13 county commissioner’s meeting.

Votes cast in all races in those precincts will be counted by scanning and by hand, and the results will be compared to determine the time and staffing needed to conduct hand counts, commissioners said.

The reconciliation between voter registration rolls and the vote count also will be reviewed.

The review is open to the public, and party leaders and judges of elections will be invited to observe.

County solicitor Wil White, who is serving as director of the elections bureau, said he hoped ballots from the selected precincts will be segregated Monday. The review of all three precincts will take about two weeks, he said.
