Butler resident injured in Monday Interstate crash

Three people, including one Butler resident, were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 at around 2 p.m. Monday in Mercer County, according to a news release.

All three victims were transported by medical helicopters.

State police said a Chevrolet Silverado towing a camper unit was traveling on the ramp from Interstate 80 east to I-79 south, but the driver lost control near mile marker 116 and collided with a Toyota Rav 4 also traveling southbound.

The Silverado struck the pillars of an overpass in the crash, and the Rav 4 collided with the guide rail. The Rav 4 also overturned multiple times before coming to a stop in the median.

According to police, the driver of the Chevrolet was Luke M. McGee, 37, of Butler, who was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. The driver of the Rav 4 was Thomas Nestor, 65, of Coraopolis, and the vehicle’s one passenger was Lisa Nestor, 66, of Coraopolis, both of whom were transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

According to the police report, McGee was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
