Harmony Borough to seek grants for stormwater projects
HARMONY — At the monthly borough council meeting Tuesday, members approved two resolutions to apply for grants through the Butler County Municipal Infrastructure program to benefit future stormwater projects.
The potential projects that the funds would benefit would align with recommendations from stormwater studies conducted during the past several years as part of a coalition of 10 municipalities working with the county on stormwater and flooding issues.
“This all came together as a result of the serious flooding that we had in 2019,” council president Greg Such said. “The commissioners got us all together in a room and said, ‘let’s work on trying to solve this.’ So the county is actively involved as well.”
The grant is funded through the county’s Municipal Infrastructure Program, which itself receives money from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
“We are trying to mobilize to get money to fund those projects,” Such said.
The Harmony Planning Commission has a new member.
Borough resident Larry Reynolds was approved at the meeting to fill the vacancy left by Lori Welsh, who recently resigned.
“I feel that one of my responsibilities as a citizen of Harmony is to give back to the community,” Reynolds said. “That’s why I’m excited to be a small part (of the commission).”
Planning commission member Joe White vouched for Reynolds’ experience with writing planning regulations.
“He’s a seasoned and highly knowledgeable guy when it comes to city planning,” White said. “The planning commission is, personnel-wise, in real good shape.”
