New bakery opens on Monroe Street
Harvey’s Sweet Shoppe, a new local bakery located at 148 N. Monroe Street in Butler, will open its doors for the first time at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6.
Owner Brittney Furka said everything Harvey’s offers is made from scratch, which includes scones, muffins, danishes, custom cakes and more.
“We just want people to come in and try some of the goodies,” she said.
Furka also mentioned they can use the space for birthday parties and cooking classes.
Harvey’s was established in 2012 by Furka. Before she decided to open a store, she sold custom cakes out of her house.
“The most complex one I've done was Cinderella’s castle for the 50th anniversary,” Furka said. “Some lady was turning 50 with Walt Disney's 50th anniversary, so we redid the castle. It took me over a week to make.”
Furka is a Butler native who attended pastry school in Connecticut and has been baking since she was a kid with her mom and grandma, she said.
Harvey’s Sweet Shoppe is open 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The bakery is closed Monday and Tuesday.
