CONNOQUENESSING – Jacob Vicheck, 17, of Evans City has earned his Eagle Scout , the highest rank advancement award presented in the Boy Scouts of America. A member of Troop 482 chartered by the Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company, Vicheck is one of only six percent of all Scouts who have ever earned the prestigious rank, according to Troop 482’s Scoutmaster, Rob Deemer. Over the past eight years, through diligent volunteers and active programming, Troop 482 has had over 50% of its eligible Scouts earn the rank of Eagle.
To earn the Eagle rank, a Scout must work through seven different ranks and 21 merit badges, as well as demonstrate leadership, a good attitude and a strong bent towards community service. That focus on service culminates as each Eagle Scout candidate successfully plans and executes an Eagle Scout Service Project.
Vicheck’s community service project benefited the Evans City Library by completely refurbishing its kitchen. Through fundraising and donations, Vicheck led a team of volunteers to replace cabinetry and countertop, purchase an oven, re-work electrical outlets and give the kitchen a fresh coat of paint.
“Since I was a little kid, I have always been around the library with my family. I chose the project because I wanted to help it out in some meaningful, long-lasting way,” said Vicheck. “The most gratifying aspect of the project was realizing that I could lead a project like this with so many different groups of people and make such a huge impact.
Vicheck received his award at an Eagle Court of Honor July 17 at the Evans City Library. He is the son of Daniel and Jennifer Vicheck of Evans City, and graduated from Seneca Valley High School in June. He plans to continue his education this fall at Butler County Community College to study nursing.
