It’s almost Labor Day, which equates to cookouts, a last dip in the pool and a relaxing day off for most of the workforce.

Keep in mind, not everyone gets to partake in this holiday. First responders, restaurant and retail workers and even certain reporters will be on the clock Monday, Sept. 5. Maybe take a moment to brighten their day, even if it’s just by smiling.

If you’re not planning on grilling or lounging poolside this weekend, there’s a couple of events rolling into the area that may pique your interest.

Bring your flashlight to Moraine State Park at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept.1, for a guided Night Hike. Meet at pavilion seven in McDanel’s Launch Area, McDanel’s Road, Portersville, and learn about nocturnal creatures and much more. Register at 724-368-8811.

The Three Rivers Van Show is parking at the Big Butler Fairgrounds, 1127 New Castle Road, Franklin Township, for the last time. From Thursday, Sept. 1, to Monday, Sept. 5, check out vehicles from the van club’s collection.

The Zerbini Family’s Big Top Circus will kick off Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Butler Farm Show grounds, 625 Evans City Road, Connoquenessing Township. For $15 a ticket, see a 90-minute spectacle at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, and 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Butler County Symphony Association’s free summer concert series will feature IF… Trio Recital with Timothi Williams, Cassandra Eisenreich and Liana Harron at noon Friday, Sept. 2, via Facebook or in person in the symphony building, 259 S. Main St.

The International Polka Festival will over take the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry, 910 Sheraton Drive, Mars, on Friday Sept. 2. Tickets are available for purchase at the door only. For more information, visit https://www.ipapolkas.com.

The Family Fishing program at Moraine State Park will teach groups to knot, cast and bait hooks from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 3, at the 528 Boat Launch at Route 528, Slippery Rock. Don’t worry; a fishing license is not required. Children must be accompanied by an adult (and vice versa) and register in advance by calling 724-368-8811.

Giddy on up to the Pennsylvania Amateur Horseman’s Association (PAHA) Horse show Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3 and 4, at the Big Butler Fairgrounds on New Castle Road.

And Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a car show at 11 a.m. Sunday Sept. 4. on Main Street, Prospect.
