Charles Calahan
On Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, Capt. Charles E. Calahan, U.S. Army Ret., formerly of Center Township, died in Tyler, Texas, from injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Green Tree, Pa., and was the son of the late Elmer Ellsworth and Bernice (Bennington) Calahan.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda, who passed away in 2009, and two brothers, Bradley and Howard.
He is survived by his sister, Penny Transue of Kingman, Ariz.; and one son and two daughters, Charles and Gilda have three children, Charles A. Calahan, Ph.D. (Nancy) of West Lafayette, Ind., Suzan L. Johns (Dr. James W.) of Ephrata, Pa., and Linda G. Gallia (Dwayne) of Quitman, Texas. They have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Charles was retired from Marmon/Keystone as a semi-driver.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and several U.S. Army schools.
Charles was a dedicated member of the Church of God, was a life member of the VFW Post 249, and a life member of the 112th Infantry Regiment Association. Charles also held memberships in the Christopher Gist Chapter Pennsylvania Society, Sons of the American Revolution, American Legion, National Genealogical Society, Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, and Welsh Glamorgan Family History Society.
CALAHAN — Visitation for Capt. Charles E. Calahan, U.S. Army Ret., who died Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
His son-in-law, Dr. Jim Johns, DMD, of the Church of God, Central, Pa., will conduct services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be held at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Butler.
