Soft school start

The Butler Area School District started the school year Tuesday, with all of the elementary schools but a soft opening for intermediate and high school grade levels.

All grade levels except for six, seven, nine and 10 started Tuesday. Those grade levels will have their first day today, Wednesday, Sept. 7, and grades eight, 11 and 12 will be off school.

The school district had several events in the weeks leading up to the start of school that got children ready for the approaching year, including a Summerfest for elementary school students, and back-to-school nights that were planned for all grade levels.

District Superintendent Brian White said in a letter that he has an optimistic outlook for the school year, and district administrators already have been promoting the importance of forming good relationships among staff and students to improve the safety and educational capability of the district.

“There is an energy and excitement to the start of the school year that is hard to describe,” he said. “For each of our students, it is an opportunity for a fresh start, an opportunity to learn new things and an opportunity to build relationships.”
