Time Capsule
More than 3,000 pieces of pie helped the Butler Senior High School marching band in 1972 raise money at its only fundraiser of the year.
The Pie Festival has been a tradition at the school that continues to this day, and on Sept. 1, 1972, the Golden Tornado marching band and Sequinettes drew a record-breaking crowd of more than 3,500 people.
According to the Sept. 2, 1972 edition of the Eagle, the event was graced by mild weather and the crowd was enthusiastic.
