The dogs hit the water Sunday afternoon for yet another Alameda Park Dog Paddle Pool Pawty.

“The dogs get to come in for a few hours and enjoy the water park and interact with other dogs,” said Lance Welliver, director of the Butler County Parks and Recreations Department.

Welliver said despite some rain earlier in the day, more than 100 dogs took a dip in the park’s pool, which also features a built-in splash pad area.

“It was a good turnout for us,“ Welliver said. ”Weather probably impacted a few I’m sure.“

As it has in years’ past, the event raised money for the Butler County Humane Society with 50% of its registration fees heading to the local animal shelter.

This year, the party coincided with a rabies and microchip clinic around the same time at the park’s Pine Shelter.

Welliver said his department usually partners with the humane society to offer about four or five vaccination clinics throughout the year.

“I think it’s a good opportunity to come out and do both,“ Welliver said.

Welliver said the his department has a few other events coming up, including Fall Family Fun Day on Sept. 25, the Monster Mile on Oct. 15, Haunted Trails on the weekend of Oct. 21, and Santa’s Workshop on Nov. 18.
