Lisa McCanna
Lisa Gerstbrein McCanna, 64, died peacefully at her East Franklin Township home on Sept. 10, 2022.
She was born July 29, 1958, in Abilene, Texas, to Harry and Mildred (Draskovich) Gerstbrein and was raised in Pittsburgh, where she graduated from Churchill Area High School and from Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art. She continued her studies at Temple University in landscape design.
In 1990, she married her husband, R. Andrew McCanna. Andy was a faithful caregiver during her illness. He survives.
Together, Lisa and Andy owned and operated The Painted Daisy, a landscape design/installation business in Kittanning that included a gift/perennial plant sales component. The business helped her to fully integrate into Kittanning life, including several years of service on the Kittanning Borough Council.
She also enjoyed a 20-plus year career in art education at the Armstrong School District, educating countless students for whom she had a lasting and continued impact. Her legacy in arts education continues through the Gerstbrein/McCanna Scholarship for the Arts.
Lisa was a lifelong pet lover. She especially loved her many and beloved cats through the years, but cheerfully adopted other family dogs when sad circumstances required.
In addition to her husband, Andy, she is survived by two brothers, Eric of Pittsburgh, and Harry and his wife, Jeanine, of McDonald; as well as her beloved nephew and godson, Matthew Gerstbrein.
She also counted her McCanna in-laws as beloved family, her sisters-in-law, Jackie McCanna, Geraldine (Denny) Sutton; and brother-in-law, Steve McCanna (and his late wife Angie); and other nieces and nephews. Numerous cousins also will mourn her loss.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Julie; and brother, Tim.
