Lucas sisters aid volleyball victories

Butler graduates and sisters Maria and Sophia Lucas contributed to college volleyball wins Tuesday night for Clarion and Slippery Rock, respectively.

Maria Lucas had two of SRU’s season-high 12 aces in a five-set win over Indiana (Pa.) at Morrow Field House. The Rock (4-8, 1-0) won the fifth set, 15-4, to drop the Crimson Hawks to 10-2, 0-1.

Sophia Lucas also had two aces in Clarion’s 3-0 win over Mercyhurst at Tippin Gymnasium. The Golden Eagles improved to 11-1, 1-0, on the season.

Evans City trainer Johnston gets win

WASHINGTON, Pa. — DP Super Special, trained and driven by Aaron Johnston of Evans City, won a $9,900 Conditioned Trot during harness racing action Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

The 4-year-old gelding won the race in 1 minute, 58.1 seconds.
