Alzheimer’s walk raises $40,000
More than 200 Butler residents attended this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, Sept. 18, at North Boundary Park in Cranberry Township, raising more than $40,000 to support the research and programs of the national Alzheimer’s Association.
Grandma’s Guardian Angels was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising more than $7,000. The team’s captain, Robin Shaffer, started the team to honor her mother, who is living with Alzheimer’s disease.
“Dozens of people joined us at North Boundary Park on Sunday to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research,” said Sara Giammarise, senior development director for the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. “We are so grateful for the community support, as well as our sponsors, who helped make this year’s event a success.”
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, making it one of the nation’s leading causes of death. In Pennsylvania alone, there are more than 280,000 people living with the disease and 500,000 caregivers.
