Prison board approves contracts
The county prison board on Tuesday approved contracts for an inspection and food service, and a cost increase for inmate health care services.
The board approved a cost increase based on the consumer price index of 4.8% or $106,326, for inmate health care provider PrimeCare.
The increase will go into effect Oct. 1, the beginning of the second year of the five-year contract with PrimeCare. The increase will raise the overall cost of the contract to $2,321,467, said Warden Joe DeMore.
In addition, the board approved a $3,750 contract with a federal contractor to conduct a Prison Rape Elimination Act inspection at the county prison.
DeMore said the inspection will be conducted sometime in the next two months to determine if the county prison meets the standards set in the federal PREA. The prison has passed its previous inspections, he said.
The board also approved a five-year contract extension with inmate food service provider Trinity Services beginning in January. The $1.76 per meal cost will not increase next year, and any future increase will be based the consumer price index. The county pays Trinity about $850,000 a year based on the inmate population, DeMore said.
