Alverna Heusey

Heusey

Alverna “Bonnie” Heusey, 77, of Fombell, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2022, in the home that she and her husband built together.

She was born on July 18, 1945, in the city of Pittsburgh, and was a daughter of the late Regis and Coletta Schoenleber Kaelin.

In 1963, Bonnie was part of the historic first graduating class of Riverside High School.

Bonnie married her beloved Richard Heusey on Nov. 20, 1965, and together they built a family that would span generations.

Like the foundation that their house was built on, their love for one another continued to grow with the birth of each of their seven children. What was once a plot of land in which a small house stood, soon became a proper home that was filled with children running through the halls — with the love they shared for one another, holding everything together and the echoing “I love you, Mum“ ringing throughout the home.

Family dinners were an essential part of the Heusey family culture, and each meal was made from scratch, often featuring hand-picked fruits and vegetables fresh from the garden. Everything Bonnie made was delicious, from her apple pies to her homemade perogi. No matter how hard people tried to replicate her recipes, nothing could compare to the taste of how she made her dishes.

As the years went by and her children moved away, the once always-bustling household started to calm itself. That calmness didn’t last for long, as the once-empty rooms were now filled with cheerful laughter and all around good vibes as her children returned with grandchildren.

Bonnie had a love for dark chocolate, trips to Las Vegas, and summer days spent at the pool, surrounded by her family. In fact, her favorite place to be was wherever her family was.

A woman of great compassion and understanding, Bonnie will be long remembered for her loving and affectionate nature. She had a knack for making you feel like you were the only one in a room full of people — always making sure to remind you that you mattered, always lending a listening ear anytime one would need it.

Her pleasant and sometimes stubborn personality was contagious to everyone she met, and time spent with family and friends was always made memorable. “Company” was always welcome in the Heusey household, and you would always be greeted with a hug or a kiss.

In ways both great and small, Bonnie showed the world what it meant to be a loving mother, grandmother, sister and most of all, friend to anyone who crossed her path.

Left behind to treasure her memories are her husband, Richard Heusey; her brother, Regis Kaelin; her sisters, Maryann Wallace and Lynn Thompson; and her children, Jessica (Bob Sciullo) Huddart, Richard (Donna) Heusey Jr., Tom Heusey, Kathy (Michael) Meade, Tim (Meredith) Heusey, Amanda (Michael) Ryan and Maryann (Thomas) Vignolini.

In addition to her children, Bonnie had a starting lineup worth of grandchildren that she cherished deeply, and a few of those grandkids elevated her to great-grandmother status.

Bonnie passed on many of her best qualities and characteristics to her children and grandchildren, and those ways of life will live on through them and be emulated by anyone else that she had known.
