High school roundup: Raiders score important conference win on the road

Seneca Valley (3-2) led wire-to-wire in a conference matchup on the road at Mt. Lebanon (2-3), winning the gridiron clash, 24-6.

Jacob Adams opened the scoring with a first-quarter field goal for the Raiders, before Aiden Lyczek recovered a blocked punt in the endzone in the next frame. Graham Hancox ran for a score and threw for another.

Union/A-C Valley 37, Kane 19 — Mikey Card and Dawson Camper combined for 208 yards rushing and four first-half rushing scores for the Falcon Knights (3-2). The team went for 275 total yards on the ground, as Brody Dittman also hit paydirt.

North Catholic 33, Kiski Area 21 — The Trojans (3-2) were down by two after the opening quarter in this one, but powered past the Cavaliers. No further information was available.

Northgate 33, Summit Academy 0 — No further information was available for this contest.

Boys Golf

A number of Butler County golfers have qualified for the WPIAL Individual Championships, which begin Monday and Tuesday.

The Class 3A championships begin Tuesday at Champion Lakes. Butler’s Hunter Swidzinski won Section 3 with a 1-under-par 71 and is one of 21 golfers from that section to reach the target score of 81 to qualify for the WPIAL tourney.

The Golden Tornado’s Parker Worsley and Wyatt Kos, Seneca Valley’s Lucas Bruns, Casey Clawson, Payton Brown and Marcos Lopez, Mars’ Blake Bertolo, James Kinghorn, Colin Stevenson, Ryan Steigerwald and Will Campbell also qualified. North Catholic’s Ethan Ellis fell two strokes short of winning Section 8. He will be joined by fellow Trojans Tommy Burke, JR Hufnagel and Erik Schneider.

The Class 2A championships begin Monday at Hannahstown Country Club. Knoch’s Mitch Davies won Section 1 with a 4-over-par 75, four strokes ahead of Freeport’s Stephen Evan’s Aiden Froedtert and Gasparo Porco, Freeport’s Nate Covey, Jayen Diehl and Matt Ziembicki-Reedy also qualified.

Girls Golf

Seneca Valley junior Lihini Ranaweera won Section 1-3A for the third consecutive year, shooting 1-over-par 73 to win by five strokes. She will be joined by Raider teammate Madison Sharek in the WPIAL 3A Individual Championships, which begin Monday at Youghiogheny Country Club.

Butler sophomore Paige Ponteous won Section 4-3A, shooting an 85 to win by five strokes. She also qualifued for the WPIAL individual championships.

Freeport’s Lillie Snow qualified for the Class 2A championships, also slated to start Monday at Youghiogheny CC.
