Public can help female vets while scoring unique treasures
Shoppers looking for furniture, household goods and other treasures — or people who have those items to donate — can help the county’s at-risk female veterans.
Robin’s Home Thrift Store and Donation Center is scheduled to open next month at 221 S. Main St. in Butler, which formerly housed Reclamation Brewing.
Mary Chitwood, director of Robin’s Home, said all proceeds from the items they sell at the thrift store will benefit the home and its programs for female veterans.
She hopes to partner with Americorps and AARP to obtain employees for the new thrift store, as members of those groups could experience work in a therapeutic setting while building their resumes.
She also plans to contact local VA officials to see if the thrift store could be designated a compensated work-therapy site for veterans, who could work at the store.
