Slippery Rock man stabs dog, police say

Pennsylvania state police filed charges against a Slippery Rock man Tuesday after he allegedly stabbed his pet Husky.

Christopher A. Chuhra, 42, was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals and misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

According to charging documents, Chuhra was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Joseph Nash and is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bond.

Police said they responded to a report of a dog-biting incident and learned Chuhra’s dog bit him around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday.

“Chuhra then proceeded into the kitchen, grabbed a large kitchen knife and stabbed his dog approximately three times in the midsection,” the investigating officer said.

The dog was transported by police to the Butler Veterinary Center and received emergency surgery. According to the affidavit, the dog was in stable condition as of 2:30 p.m.

Chuhra is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 5.
