Gladys Beres
Gladys Beyerl Beres, 92, passed away peacefully at her Fort Myers, Fla., home on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
If you’ve ever crossed paths with any of the Beres kids, you know that only a formidable woman could be their mother. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, and they never went a moment without knowing she was in their corner.
She was so many things, including a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers fan, an incredible cook and ultimate cookie maker, a skilled seamstress, and the original Pink Panthers softball coach.
One of her proudest moments was helping develop a nursing scholarship with the Zelienople Junior Women’s Club, where she was an active member and past president.
She was counted on to cart kids to the roller rink, assisted with newspaper delivery in inclement weather, drove her sons and friends to check trap lines, taught many how to water ski, and cheered at events for her children and grandchildren. She loved boating, fishing, the beach, and rehabbing houses with Bob (way before it was trendy). The Beres home was the safe place for all to come and enjoy family and a warm meal.
Upon retirement, Gladys and Bob moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where she was president of the First Mates Boating Club and served on the Orange Harbor HOA Board.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, James Robert “Bob” Beres; her parents, Clarence and Beatrice “Betty” Beyerl; her sister, Beatrice “Bea”; and her son, Michael J. Beres.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings, Clarence, Gayle, Joyce, Frank and Jennifer; her children, Linda, James Robert Jr., Deborah, Stephen (Shari), Kimberly and daughter-in-law, Tracey; 14 grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, Nicole, Abby, James Robert III “JimBob,” Chad, Richard, Cassandra “Cassie,” Steven, Kaitlin, Tyler, Michael, Madison and Ryan; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
