Knoch rally falls short

Knights still winless after 37-36 setback at Deer Lakes

Aidan Jones did more than just keep Knoch’s offense afloat when he entered as the backup quarterback Friday night at Lancer Stadium. Jones led a furious rally that came up just short. The Knights nearly overcame a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit before falling 37-36 in an Allegheny 6 Conference loss.

The defeat was Knoch’s second this season that came by one point. The loss dropped the Knights record to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Jones replaced injured quarterback Codi Mullen in the third quarter when the Knights were behind 14-6. He would tie the game on an 8-yard touchdown run and when Knoch added the two-point conversion.

He also threw an 83-yard touchdown pass to Jake Murphy, a 22-yard touchdown pass to Exavier Johnson and a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jack Bauman.

Bauman’s touchdown came with five minutes remaining. Knoch attempted a two-point conversion to take the lead, but the pass fell short.

Central Clarion 26, Karns City 20 (OT) — The Gremlins had a nightmarish overtime during their a loss to the Wildcats at Memorial Stadium. Karns City’s one offensive play resulted in a fumble. Central Clarion didn’t waste its possession, scoring on the second place to score a six-point win.

The Gremlins fell to 3-3 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in the District 9 Large Division. The Wildcats (6-0, 4-0) remained undefeated.

Redbank 38, Union/A-C Valley 8 — Redbank jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game on touchdown passes from Cam Wagner to Ashton Kahle for nine yards and Mason Clouse for 55 yards.

Owen Clouse hit a 30-yard field goal with 8:38 in the second quarter to make it 17-0 by halftime.

The mercy rule went into effect two minutes later when Byers scored again from 7 yards out to make it 38-0.

Union/A-C Valley's lone score came on an 18-yard pass from Owen Bish to Zach Cooper.

Brody Dittman was 3 of 11 for 22 yards and two interceptions. Bish was 8 of 10 for 66 yards and the TD. Dawson Camper rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries before exiting the game in the second half with an injury. Bish rushed for 42 yards for Union/A-C Valley.

Freeport 12, Shady Side Academy 7 — Quarterback-cornerback Gavin Croney came up big for the Yellowjackets (5-1, 1-0), scoring a go-ahead pick-six in the fourth quarter.

Brady Stivenson’s long halfback pass to Brady Sullivan, which opened the scoring. The ‘Jackets missed the PAT, which allowed the host Bulldogs (1-5, 0-1) to hold a 7-6 advantage for most of the contest.

Girls Tennis

The Golden Tornado dropped two matches that extended beyond three sets against Moon Friday afternoon. Butler lost 5-0, which dropped its record to 4-1 on the season. The Golden Tornado will play North Allegheny next Monday.

Jillian Clark, Ali Smith and Makayla Turner played singles for Butler. The doubles teams of Laini Spohn and Olivia Culp along with Carly DeVore and Ariena Pintell also competed for the Golden Tornado.

Girls Volleyball

Abbey Jewart had 13 assists, two aces, a block and a kill in Moniteau’s 3-2 win over Karns City Thursday night. Match scores were 25-14, 12-25, 22-25, 25-22, 20-18.

Marissa Pry contributed six kills, two aces and two blocks for the Warriors while Bella Hernandez had two kills, three aces and three blocks, Lily Staab two aces and five digs.

Slippery Rock 3, Franklin 0 — The Rockets swept this Thursday match by scores of 25-22, 25-15, 25-20.
