Credit union in the works in Butler Township
BUTLER TWP — A new credit union could be constructed soon on New Castle Road.
The Butler Township Planning Commission on Tuesday approved a plan to install a Top Tier Federal Credit Union, formerly known as Clarion Federal Credit Union, at 270 New Castle Road, which is across from the entrance to Butler Senior High School.
Jesse Hines, Butler Township zoning officer, said the property parcel consists of 4.16 acres and is zoned to allow a banking facility with a drive thru.
According to the plan, the building will be about 2,500 square feet, and the project will install a new driveway at the intersection at the traffic light by the high school. The project will also involve the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which will install new signs along the road about the updated traffic at 270 New Castle Road.
The commission reviewed a plan by UPMC Hillman Cancer Center on Technology Drive to install an addition for a new linear accelerator facility.
A linear accelerator is a cancer treatment device used for external beam radiation treatments for patients with cancer.
The addition will add about 2,000 square feet to the existing building, cutting into some of the facility’s parking lot.
At a June 20 meeting, the Butler Township Commissioners approved creating a 148-space parking lot for the Benbrook Medical Center, which has been in the works across the street from the facility for the past few months.
“This is a big reason why you saw last month and the month before a new parking lot approved right across the road,” Hines said.
The Butler Township Commissioners will review the two development requests at a future meeting.
