Pennsylvania American Water distributes grants to fire departments
Pennsylvania American Water has awarded $500 grants to four county fire departments, which were among 142 departments in the state to share in $71,000 in grant funds.
The grants were announced Monday in honor of the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week.
Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3, City of Butler Bureau of Fire, Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company and Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company received grants.
The Connoquenessing department plans to use the money to buy new traffic safety vests for company personnel, Chief Lou Zimmerman Jr. said. “Anybody that’s going to be working in the roadway. That’s firefighters and fire police,” Zimmerman said.
Pennsylvania American Water said it has awarded $850,000 to fire departments across the state since starting the Firefighting Support Grant program in 2009.
