Butler soccer thumps North Hills

Andrew Lucas, Aiden Wisda, Schuyler Hensler, Thomas Sheptak and Landon Stevenson each scored a goal as Butler’s boys soccer team upended North Hills, 5-1, Thursday night at Martorelli Stadium.

Assists went to Sheptak (2), Jaxon Llewellyn, Cody Lubinsky and Garrick Lapusnak.

The Golden Tornado moved to 11-4-2 overall and 7-4-2 in section games.

Deer Lakes 3, Freeport 1 — Angelo Porco’s goal for the Yellowjackets (7-9, 7-7) was assisted by Isaac Wetzel.

Ethan Rapp had nine saves in net.

Knoch 11, Derry 0 — Caleb Oskin had five goals, bringing his season total to 30, in this rout for the playoff-bound Knights (10-7, 10-4).

Isaac Oskin scored twice while Austin Friedline, Sam Caldwell, Jay Allen and Orrin Milcic each had a goal.

Girls Soccer

A number of players contributed to the scoring in Karns City’s 8-1 victory over Punxsutawney.

Lyrik Reed tallied two goals and had two assists while McKenna Martin scored three goals.

Cece Morrow contributed a goal and three assists, Hanna Dailey one goal and one assist, Aubrey Price one goal.

Emma Dailey chipped in two assists.

Butler 3, North Hills 0 — Leah Weiland, Jessica Mohney and Tori Stevenson each scored a goal for the Golden Tornado (9-6-1, 7-5-1).

Delaney Yaracs recorded three saves to earn the shutout.

Slippery Rock 2, Hickory 1 — Emma Hays and Hannah Plunkard both scored for the Rockets.

Girls Tennis

Knoch, which defeated Ringgold and Derry by identical 5-0 scores in the WPIAL Class 2A team tournament earlier this week, will meet Beaver in a district semifinal at 2 p.m. Monday at North Allegheny High School.

The other semifinal matches South Park against top-seeded and defending WPIAL champion Sewickley Academy.

The championship match will be played Wednesday at Washington & Jefferson College.

Volleyball

A-C Valley improved its record to 8-6 with a dominating effort at home against Union.

Lexi Ruckdeschel’s 12 kills and three blocks spurred the 25-13, 25-8, 25-11 victory.

Mackenzie Parks tallied four kills and eight digs while Jenna Stefanacci had 17 assists.

Bella Ielase dropped five kills and Ava Snyder was behind the service line for 10 points.

North Allegheny 3, Butler 0 — Brynn Cornibe totaled five blocks in this 25-16, 25-9, 25-9 defeat for the Golden Tornado.

Ashley Figlioli added nine digs and two kills.

Knoch 3, Ambridge 0 — Melissa Karastury served for nine points and Megan Miller added eight service points in this 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 win for the Knights (7-8, 5-4).

Hickory 3, Karns City 1 — Ava Fox had eight kills, 11 digs and two blocks for the Gremlins.

Rosalie Carden contributed four kills and 15 digs while Kendall Ritzert was good for eight assists and seven digs.

North Clarion 3, Moniteau 1 — Bella Hernandez’s five kills, six blocks and two aces highlighted this Warriors’ loss.

Davina Pry added five kills and three blocks, Allie Pry eight digs and three kills.

Boys Golf

Mars placed third in the WPIAL Class 3A Team Championship at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course in Belle Vernon. The Planets finished with 408 strokes, 19 behind Central Catholic, which took the team title.

Blake Bertolo carded a 73, which was better than every golfer but Central Catholic’s Rocco Salvitti’s 71.

Girls Golf

Butler finished eighth at the WPIAL 3A Team Championship at Cedarbrook Gold Golf Course. Paige Ponteous finished with a 95 to lead the Golden Tornado. Peters Township won the team title with 328 strokes.
