Richard J. “Dick” Fair Sr., 80, of Butler, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Born July 8, 1942, in Butler, Dick was the son of the late John R. and Margaret L. (Keck) Fair.

Dick was a graduate of Butler High School and later went on to attend Clarion University.

He proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army as military police in Saigon during the Vietnam War.

Dick worked as the head of the Butler County Printing Department and later in the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.

He was an active member of the Butler Masonic Lodge F&AM 272, and past master of the Victory Lodge 694, where he was involved with numerous groups. Dick was also a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler.

He enjoyed spending his free time hunting, traveling and with Friday Breakfast Club.

Dick is survived by his wife, Carol S. Fair, whom he married on Oct. 31, 1970; his son, Richard J. Fair Jr., and his girlfriend, Janet Simons, of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

FAIR — A full Masonic service as well as a memorial service to honor the life of Richard J. “Dick” Fair Sr., who died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., with Jennifer Twentier officiating.
