William Sommers
William “Bill” Jude Sommers, 80, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, surrounded by family after an extended battle with cancer.
Bill was born in Pittsburgh, the son to James Michael Sommers and Margaret D. McGarvey Sommers on Feb. 12, 1942. He married Beverly Mae Shaffer on May 3, 1967.
Bill was retired from David Joseph Company and Kennedy Diversified Inc. in Slippery Rock.
Bill was an avid fan of all Slippery Rock sports teams and a proud member of the Grove City Eagles and Slippery Rock Knights of Columbus and was the Captain at the Rockhill Hunting and Fishing Club.
Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly; and sons, William Jr. and his wife, Lisa, John and his wife, Denise, and Daniel and his wife, Shannon. Also surviving are three brothers, James Sommers of San Diego, Calif., Eddie Sommers and his wife, Bette, of Harrisville, and Tom Sommers and Theresa of Portersville; and grandchildren, Coartney, Amanda, Nichole, Hailey, John Jr., Mason, William III and James.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Forsmark, Peggy Cokus and Alice Lyons; and three brothers, John, Patrick, and Larry Sommers.
SOMMERS — Family of William “Bill” Jude Sommers, who died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday led by Father Adam Verona at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 232 Boyers Road, Harrisville.
Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Harrisville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
