Knoch on modified lockdown for second day

The Knoch School District will resume normal operations Thursday, Oct. 20, following a potential threat detected Tuesday morning.

According to superintendent Dave Foley, a modified lockdown means students will go about a normal schedule, but no visitors are allowed on school campuses. Doors will remain locked on all buildings.

Normal operations, including extracurricular activities, will occur moving forward.

Although the criminal investigation continues, administrators do not believe the threat to have been credible, according to a letter from the school district. The district will continue collaborating with and seeking assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police.

“We appreciate everyone’s diligence in helping us maintain a safe and secure school environment for our students and staff,” the letter said. “Thank you for your patience and support through this challenging week.”

Knoch operated on a modified lockdown Wednesday. Parents were informed around 7 p.m. Tuesday that the modified lockdown would continue into Wednesday. The first lockdown was announced at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

“We’re telling people to stay inside the building and not to leave and come back inside,” Foley said.

All after-school activities for Wednesday continued as scheduled.

State troopers will continue their presence at the school today, working with school police officers to patrol the buildings.
