Montag

Allen D. Montag, 93, of Floral City, Fla., died peacefully on Oct. 4, 2022, at Vitas Hospice Inpatient Unit in Lecanto, Fla.

A native of Cabot, he was born on June 23, 1929, to Elmer H. and Frieda (Ziesler) Montag.

Raised with three sisters, Allen attended The Old School House until 8th grade, then attended and graduated from Butler High School. He later moved to Florida in 1987.

Allen worked as a master machinist and a farmer.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. He was one of a few who was still skilled in the use of Morse Code. Allen was also the last charter member of VFW Post 7122, founded in December of 1992 in Floral City, Fla.

Faith in God was an important part of Allen’s life. While living in Pennsylvania, he was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, then attended Faith Lutheran Church in Lecanto after moving to Florida.

He loved classic cars and owned three Dodges that he eventually donated to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. He also spent many hours learning about and tending to his citrus trees. He loved putting smiles on faces as he gave away his fruit to family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances.

In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by three sisters; his wife of 50 years, Leah (Oesterling) Montag; his wife of 17 years, Velma (Smith) Montag; and his son, Larry Montag.

He is survived by his daughter, Diane Montag Rigos of Floral City, Fla.; his son, Rodney Montag of Hernando, Fla.; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

MONTAG — A funeral service and burial with military honors for Allen D. Montag, who died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, was held Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
