Butler City Police officer Michael Sulerud, center, received the highest honor at the Amen Corner Senator John Heinz Law Enforcement Awards event honoring police officers in Western Pennsylvania on Friday, Oct. 21. Sulerud was critically stabbed Aug. 24 by John Ebberts, of Butler, who was shot and killed by officers following his stabbing of Sulerud on Jefferson Street. Sulerud was flown by helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, where he needed surgical treatment. Sulerud returned to active duty in February 2022.
