Hunting dispute ends in deadly shooting
EMLENTON — A man was shot and killed Saturday evening following a hunting dispute, said state police in Franklin.
Robert Cy Wingard died around 8:07 p.m. Saturday from a wound suffered at the scene, according to police.
David Charles Heathcote faces criminal homicide charges over the shooting and is being held at Venango County Jail, police said. District Judge Matthew Kirtland, who arraigned Heathcote, has denied him bail.
Franklin state police said they received the call about the incident from Heathcote.
Police said he told them he and Wingard entered the dispute at 716 Big Bend Road, Heathcote’s residence, and he said Wingard was in his own vehicle at the time.
According to police, Heathcote said that when Wingard threatened to shoot Heathcote’s daughter, Heathcote shot him.
The county coroner has not disclosed further details about Wingard’s cause of death as of Sunday evening.
