Coraopolis man dies following crash in Jackson Township

JACKSON TWP — A Coraopolis man died Monday following a crash at the intersection of Rolling Hills Drive and Route 19. He was fleeing at a high rate of speed from a hit-and-run crash moments earlier, police said.

Chad Kozay, 44, was taken by Harmony EMS to UPMC-Passavant Hospital in Cranberry Township, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Kozay collided with two vehicles shortly before 11:45 a.m. on Route 19 at the intersection of Lindsay Road, according to Jackson Township Police.

Kozay drove a 2016 Ram 1500 pickup truck through a red traffic light on Lindsey Road and then collided with two vehicles that were traveling northbound on Route 19 shortly before 11:45 a.m., police said.

Kozay first struck a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Cassandra Eisler, 18, and then struck a 2017 Chevrolet Express van driven by Andre Sanders of Warren, Ohio, police said.

Following the collision, Kozay left the scene at a high rate of speed, traveling south on Route 19, weaving in and out of traffic, police said.

At the intersection of Rolling Hills Drive, Kozay crossed over the northbound lanes of Route 19, traveled through the parking lot of GM Equipment Rentals and continued south through private property and struck a parked storage trailer, according to police.

Kozay was not wearing a seat belt, and his vehicle sustained “extensive damage” and was towed from the scene, police said.

Eisler sustained minor injuries from the crash and was transported for more medical treatment in a private vehicle, police said. Sanders reported no injuries from the crash.

The Ram pickup truck and the Hyundai Santa Fe were towed from the scene by Turley’s Truck Service.

Jackson Township Police were assisted at the scene by the Evans City and Seven Fields Regional Police, the Cranberry Township Police, the Cranberry Township Fire Department, the Harmony Fire District and Harmony EMS.

The investigation is ongoing.
