The familiar fairy tale will take on a charming twist in the Sing Hosanna! production of “Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)” next week.

Experience the classic cast of characters, the ball, the pumpkin carriage and the slipper and all before midnight Nov. 11 and 12 at Butler County Community College’s Succop Theater.

According to director Ralph Christy Jr., the show features Rodgers and Hammerstein’s music, and is based on the Walt Disney movie starring Whitney Houston and Brandy.

“The theme that we are stressing is from Cinderella’s dialogue: ‘I wish I could go to that ball tonight. I wish it for every girl (or boy) who ever wanted to go to a dance and was told she (or he) couldn’t,’” Christy said.

Mia McGrady, who plays the title character, said her portrayal is lovable and relatable.

“Everyone knows and loves Cinderella: She obeys her family, goes to the ball, and falls in love with the prince. Cinderella is hardworking and humble, despite how her family treats her, and she never gives up no matter how hard life gets. She eventually learns to stand up for herself instead of believing everything her stepfamily tells her,” she said.

The show also brings depth to many of the characters. Matt Nocera, who plays Prince Christopher, said his character attempts to evade the royal ball planned by his mother.

“The purpose of the ball is so that he can find a wife,” he said. “He feels as if he has no life of his own, but he is convinced to go along with the ball anyway. By chance, Chris meets Cinderella and falls in love immediately.”

The cast has enjoyed working alongside each other, McGrady and Christy said.

“Everyone is so talented and tries their hardest to bring everything together. Every couple and group in the show has amazing chemistry,” McGrady said.

“The music and the dancing is strong and the actors are very believable in their roles,” Christy said.

Nocera said people can relate to “Cinderella” on a number of levels.

“I really hope audiences with come away remembering the good fortune and happiness that can come from life and relationships,” he said. “There are moments in the show that we can all relate to. It may be feeling like an outcast or feeling like you have no life of your own. It may be the moment you remember meeting the girl of your dreams or your ‘prince charming’ and the warm feelings that go with it.”

McGrady added that the show has many good messages to share with audiences.

“Cinderella is a wonderful role model for girls and boys, young and old. She views life as it could be instead of what it is. She learns that it’s OK to have dreams and wishes, but you can take yourself exactly where you want to go as long as you have the courage,” she said.
