Mary Marburger

Marburger

Mary Werner Marburger (Marma) died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022, surrounded by her five children and under the loving care of Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She was four days shy of her 92nd birthday.

A cancer survivor and fiercely independent, she lived in her family home of nearly 70 years until a very recent case of pneumonia and finally kidney failure.

Born on Nov. 10,1930, into the Charles and Rachel Werner family of Mars, Mary was the youngest of 10 surviving children and the last living member of her family of origin. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, S. Vernon Marburger (Stanpa).

Mary is survived by her five children, Ron Marburger (Sally), Shirley Keating (Jeff), Kay Terry, Mike Marburger (Jill), and Ned Marburger (Scott Coenen); nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Mary was deeply committed to her family and her faith. She was raised in a large farm family, who were steadfast, hardworking and generous. Always curious with a never-ending thirst for knowledge, education was of great importance to her. She had great interest and was always informed on history, current events and politics. She was an avid reader throughout her life, and when she could no longer see well, she would listen to biographies of presidents and historical and contemporary figures. She created a beautiful and inviting home that she loved sharing with immediate and extended family. There were many holiday dinners, parties on the porch, and just ordinary family get-togethers. She was always “other” focused and even if you didn’t know her and wanted to visit, she loved what she called “touching souls.”

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend was a wonderful teacher, a source of constant and consistent love and support, and was a beautiful example of a life well lived. We are deeply thankful to have had her in our lives and she will be greatly missed.
