Wil White said the democratic process in Butler County proceeded without any major incidents on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

“It was hectic, but went fluidly,” said White, who is the county solicitor and served as acting elections director until the recent promotion of Chantell McCurdy to the post.

He said small issues, like a precinct getting low on pens or “I Voted” stickers, saw elections workers taking needed items to various polls throughout the county.

One precinct experienced one of two ballot scanners not working properly, so it was replaced with another.

“The problems we’ve encountered so far were manageable,” White said at about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

He said the midterm election was going much more smoothly than the 2020 presidential election, which was unprecedented in Pennsylvania due to multiple court decisions prior to the polls opening.

“Voters are more educated, and we are better prepared and staffed,” White said. “We have more volunteers and the volunteers are more educated.”

He said all precincts were fully staffed and more poll watchers were on hand at the precincts.

“That means people are actually seeing what is going on, and they are reporting back to their parties and candidates,” White said.

The polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
