Temperatures predicted to fall; snow in forecast

While temperatures are predicted to drop throughout the week, leveling out in the mid-teens this weekend, November still is hovering above the average temperature for the month so far.

Matthew Kramar, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, said the average temperature in the region in November 2021 was 40.5 degrees, and as of Tuesday, Nov. 15, it is 53.6 degrees.

However, he said the region is getting “shocked into winter,” as temperatures fall over the course of the week.

Despite the cold temperatures, Kramar said only light snow is in the forecast for most of the week.

“Wednesday it’s back up into the upper 40s; then it gets chilly,” Kramar said. “There is a low of 26 Wednesday night, it will be in the low 20s Thursday night, and a low in the mid-teens Friday night. For the weekend, highs are below freezing.”

It will continue to rain Wednesday, with a 60% chance that it could change to snow later in the day. While it is predicted to snow into Thursday with a chance of snow possible Friday, Kramar said there will be “little to no accumulation.”

Kramar also said the average snowfall for November in the region is 2.4 inches, and that last November the area received 1.5 inches.

“We're thinking about a half an inch in Butler County,” Kramar said of the snowfall this week. “We're clearly below average this year.”

Tyler Schlobohm, a fourth-year student at Butler County Community College, studies outside in the cooler weather on Monday, Nov. 14. "I woke up and it was 30 degrees outside. I couldn't believe it." Schlobohm said. Cary Shaffer/Butler Eagle
