It took all day for the Butler Area Jaycees to hang Christmas decorations throughout downtown Butler on Nov. 21, 1970, but the completion of the group members’ work came at the perfect time, because the work-filled Sunday was followed by morning snow flurries.

The decorations officially kicked off the “yuletide shopping season” that year and were set up right before the Spirit of Christmas parade, which still takes place annually in the city.

Snow covered the street the following morning, and by 8 a.m., the Christmas decorations placed throughout town looked fitting for the winter season.
