St. Luke’s food drive concludes
The students of St. Luke Lutheran School, 330 Hannahstown Road, Jefferson Township, recently concluded their annual project of collecting food items, a tradition that goes back more than 55 years.
Every year, the students gather food items to share their blessings with people in need. Originally the recipients were the residents at Concordia Lutheran Home, now known as Concordia Lutheran Ministries. Now, the donations are given to the food pantries at St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Lighthouse Foundation in Valencia.
Each classroom gathers food items for several weeks prior to Thanksgiving. Oftentimes, a friendly competition between grades amplifies the students’ enthusiasm. At the end of the drive, the classroom with the most items per student is announced and receives a special prize.
