CHICORA — A Jefferson County woman, who state police said punched and kicked a trooper and was found in possession of heroin, waived her preliminary hearing Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Kyrsten M. Keener, 30, of Brookville waived her preliminary hearing before District Judge Lewis Stoughton. The charges against Keener will be forwarded to Butler County Common Pleas Court.

Keener was being held in the county prison in lieu of $100,000 bail, but that was reduced to unsecured bail with conditions attached. She was placed on pretrial supervision and ordered to abstain from using alcohol and illegal drugs, submit to weekly drug and alcohol use testing, undergo a drug and alcohol assessment, and not to possess firearms or other deadly weapons.

She is facing felony charges of aggravated assault, eluding an officer and contraband; misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, possession of drugs, driving under the influence and false identification to an officer; and traffic citations for reckless driving, careless driving and driving with a suspended license following a Nov. 21 incident in Bruin.

According to an affidavit, Keener fled from a traffic stop near Story Road with police in pursuit, and then jumped out of the vehicle at the intersection of Kittanning Pike and North Wayne Avenue and fled on foot.

A trooper caught up with Keener after a 100-yard chase. While attempting to take her into custody, police said Keener fought the officer, punching him in the face and kicking him numerous times. The officer deployed his stun gun to take Keener into custody.

Police said a stamp bag of heroin was found in Keener’s undergarments after a search at the scene, and later blood tests showed she was operating the vehicle while under the influence. After taking Keener to the jail, additional stamp bags of heroin were discovered to be hidden in her undergarments.
