CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Route 528 was temporarily closed early Monday afternoon after a truck driver for Vito Pilosi III Excavating of Prospect failed to negotiate a curve and lost his load, police said.

Trooper Sean Gercken of State Police Troop D in Butler said the driver lost control of his tractor-trailer on a bend heading north on Route 528 between Little Creek and Shannon roads.

While the cab of the truck remained upright off the east side of the rural stretch of road, the trailer broke off and rolled over.

The large excavator being hauled on the trailer dislodged when the trailer began to roll over a hillside and rolled off the trailer.

The driver was not injured in the accident, Gercken said.

Crews attempted to winch to the large machine up the hill, which caused that stretch of road to be closed just after noon.

Gercken said officials from the state Department of Transportation responded to the scene to determine if the asphalt surface remained safe for motorists, as a large chunk was damaged in the accident.

He said PennDOT would determine whether the road would be closed more permanently so the surface could be repaired and made safe for travel.

Gercken said at the scene it was undetermined whether the driver would be cited for the accident.
