Freezing rain possible Wednesday night
Wet weather is on the way with a slight chance of snow and freezing rain Wednesday night and early Thursday, followed by snow that isn’t expected to accumulate.
The forecast calls for a 20% chance of snow showers turning into freezing rain Wednesday night and early Thursday.
Any precipitation that comes Wednesday will begin around midnight as snow showers, and could turn into freezing rain before changing into rain showers during the day Thursday when the high temperature will reach 40 degrees. Any freezing rain that develops is not expected to make roads icy.
“A light glaze, but no real accumulation is expected at this point,” said Lee Hendricks, National Weather Service meteorologist in Pittsburgh.
He said handrails and metal stairs that are exposed to the weather might be slick, but bridges and overpasses are not expected to become icy.
Thursday’s rain could turn into show showers at night, but no accumulation is expected, Hendricks said.
There is a 40% to 50% chance of snow showers with no accumulation Friday and Saturday
“We’re not looking for significant accumulation at this point,” Hendricks said.
People traveling east toward Clearfield County will encounter a winter storm watch with snow, sleet and freezing rain in the forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday.
