No tax increase in Center Township budget
CENTER TWP — Supervisors passed a resolution approving the 2023 township budget with expenditures for the year at $2,184,900, which are balanced by expected revenues.
The 2023 budget is around $170,000 more than the 2022 budget, which was passed with $2,013,500 in expenses, and also was matched by revenues. The tax rate in the township will remain at 3.55 mills, which represents $76.33 per year per homeowner with a $200,000 market-value home, according to the township’s 2023 budget report.
Public works was the largest expense for both years, with 32% of the budget expected to be spent on the line item in 2023. Other large expenses include general services, which occupies 10% of the budget, and snow removal, which occupies 9%, and highway maintenance, board of supervisors and personnel services, each occupying 8% of the budget.
“The General Fund supports the core service of the township, including community development and planning, public works and administration,” Anthony Amendolea, township secretary and treasurer, wrote in the budget report. “The 2023 budget continues to fund all current programs and proposes enhancements in several areas.”
The “major accomplishments” listed for 2022 included the purchase of a freight liner truck, new computers and office chairs, a new Ford F600, and the annual paving project that tackled 12 roads in the township.
The supervisors passed the new budget in a unanimous vote.
The township also has a fire protection fund, which is funded by homeowners paying a tax rate of two mills — which has been the rate since 2020. The Unionville Volunteer Fire Company is funded by that money, and with about $25,000 from the local service tax, according to the budget report.
